Silverstone Youth Academy is for young people who have a desire to learn all aspects of rally driving. The Academy concept is based upon continuous training and development whilst having the opportunity to compete should they desire in the Silverstone Motor Club Junior Championship. The academy should be seen as a way of giving continuous development to your young driver and not just as an opening to get competing as it is based upon the concept such as football academies who not only compete but constantly train to develop and enhance their ability. It is not necessary for any young driver to have experience prior to joining us and you do not need to purchase a car whilst training with us as you use our cars for training and development and it is your choice how often you want to compete in rallies once you have achieved the necessary criteria with the option to either hire a car from us to rally in or purchase your own to which we can help you if you require. Our concept is based upon learning all aspects of rally driving in initially low cc front wheel drive vehicles to eventually moving on to rear wheel drive and four wheel drive as you develope your ability! We also cover many of the theory aspects of rally driving such as vehicle navigation, changing a wheel and car maintenance and set up practice rally stages prior to you being ready to compete. We also invite guest speakers to academy days from the world of rally to discuss subjects such as diet, training, etc.
![]() Initially you will drive in dual controlled cars and we will teach your junior the basic functions of driving initially but as they pass through the colour coded passports they will learn rally driving techniques until eventually they will be able to compete in The Silverstone Motor Club Junior Championship (subject to achieving the necessary criteria). The progression through the passports will be different for each individual as some will learn quicker than others. You will also take your test to get your rally driver licence which is included in the academy package!!!! We envisage the academy to progress as the beginners become intermediate and the intermediate become more advanced!!!
If your son or daughter already has some experience it does not matter as they will be taught to their individual ability.
The minimum age for the academy will be 11 years but there will also be a minimum height restriction of 4ft 6 inches. Registration is being taken now and the limited availability is going fast!!! This a rolling Academy and you will be able to become a member at any time providing we have the places available. ![]() The cost of the academy is £1200 for 6 full day sessions taking place every two months. You can pay by paying all up front or by paying an intial £100 and then by paying £100 per month on standing order for 11 months or though some parents opt to do 9 sessions at £1800 per year. If you are not sure why not book an academy taster for £89.00 To register your interest either phone the school and give your initial payment of £100 or payment in full of £1200 or book and pay on line but a registration form must then be completed. Limited Places. The package also includes the cost of getting your rally driver licence Bars Test which is normally £180 - but to all Academy members it is included in the academy price. For new registrations it is often recommended that they have some induction training with one on one tuition in the form of our Rally Solo before they attend their first academy training.
Our ethos of the academy is to build confidence in our young members and for them to learn in an environment that is safe but relaxed and whilst we are striving for excellence most of all it is important that they enjoy what they are doing and do not feel under pressure!!!
Parents will be expected to sign an indemnity. It is envisaged that the academy will continue on each year to progress the driving skills and to become a major hobby for each registered individual to the club.
We are not a pressurised environment and need to give our junior drivers time to grow and flourish and their safety is paramount to us in allowing them to rally - parents need to understand that their junior should not be pressurised into competing before they are ready and that their training is more important than competing as it is this that will safeguard their future and make them into a driver to excel.
